Phase 6

The First Fortnight
(Settling In)
  • Deep Clean: It’s easier to clean floors and cupboards before they are fully unpacked.

  • Update Your ID: Change your address on your Driving Licence and V5C Logbook (it’s free and legal).

  • Register with a GP: Find your local surgery and register all family members.

  • Check the Alarms: Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working in the new property.

Phase 5

Moving Day
  • Record Meter Readings: Take photos of your Gas/Electric/ Water meters before you leave.

  • The Final Sweep: Check every loft, shed, and cupboard.

  • Arrival Check: Once at the new house, check the condition of all boxes as they are unloaded.

  • Say Hello: Briefly introduce yourself to the new neighbours (it helps with parking the truck!).

Phase 4

Moving Week
(The Final 7 Days)
  • The "Essentials Box": Pack a box with the kettle, tea, coffee, chargers, basic tools, and toilet paper. Keep this in your car, not the truck!

  • Defrost the Fridge/Freezer: Ensure it is bone-dry before the movers arrive.

  • Confirm Key Times: Speak with your solicitors and estate agents to confirm when keys will be released (usually 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM).

  • Pack the "Valuables": Keep passports, jewellery, and move contracts with you personally.

Phase 1

The "Offer Accepted" Stage (6–8 Weeks to Go)
  • Instruct your Solicitor: Ensure your conveyancing is underway.

  • Start the "You Moving" Process: Submit your details to be matched with a BAR-registered hub.

  • Declutter: Don't pay to move things you don't need. Sell, donate, or tip items now.

  • The "Floor Plan" Audit: Measure your large furniture (sofas, wardrobes) to ensure they fit through the doors of your new home.

Phase 2

The Planning Stage
(4 Weeks to Go)
  • Book Your Survey: Have your You Moving consultant perform a virtual or home visit.

  • Get Your Fixed-Price Quote: Confirm your dates and secure your BAR-protected deposit.

  • Notify Landlords/Schools: If renting, give formal notice. Contact schools to arrange transfer dates.

  • Order Packing Materials: If you are DIY-packing, get your double-walled boxes and bubble wrap now.

Phase 3

The Admin Crunch
(2 Weeks to Go)
  • Notify Utilities: Inform Water, Gas, and Electric providers of your move date.

  • Broadband & TV: Book your installation for the new house—lead times can be 14+ days.

  • Redirect Mail: Set up a Royal Mail Redirection service for 3–6 months.

  • Council Tax: Notify both your current and new local authorities.
